Are my past life memories real?
One of the questions I hear most often before a regression session is whether the memories people experience are “real.” It’s a natural question, especially when someone experiences emotions, people, or places that feel incredibly familiar despite never encountering them in this lifetime. Over time, I’ve come to believe that the deeper purpose of regression work is not necessarily proving whether a memory is historically accurate, but understanding why that experience is being shown to the soul in the first place.
I believe our guardian angels, spirit guides, or higher spiritual helpers play a role in bringing forward the experiences that can help us grow emotionally and spiritually in our current life. During a regression, people are often guided toward memories, symbols, or emotional experiences that connect directly to the struggles they are facing today. It’s almost as though the soul is being lovingly shown, “This is where this fear began,” or “This is the lesson you came here to heal.” Whether the experience is a literal past life or a symbolic message from spirit, the emotional wisdom inside it is often exactly what the person needs at that moment in their life.
What’s fascinating is that these experiences are rarely random. Someone struggling with deep abandonment fears may be shown a lifetime centered around loss or separation. A person who constantly sacrifices themselves for others may relive experiences where they ignored their own needs for an entire lifetime. I’ve seen clients suddenly understand lifelong emotional patterns within minutes of seeing these connections. Many times, they leave with a feeling that they were being gently guided toward an understanding their conscious mind had been unable to reach on its own.
One client I worked with struggled her entire life with feeling emotionally isolated, even when surrounded by people who loved her. During her regression, she experienced a quiet lifetime living alone in a remote area, disconnected from family and community. Near the end of that life, she felt overwhelming regret for shutting people out emotionally. What stood out most was not the details of the life itself, but the feeling afterward that her guides were helping her recognize the same emotional pattern continuing into her present life. That realization created a deep emotional shift for her.
I think many people expect spiritual guidance to arrive in dramatic ways, but often it comes through very human stories and emotions. Our guides seem less concerned with impressing us and more concerned with helping us heal. Sometimes they show us experiences filled with love and connection. Other times they bring forward painful memories that still need understanding or release. In either case, the purpose is growth. The soul is being given an opportunity to see itself more clearly.
One thing I encourage clients to do is release the need to analyze every detail during the session. The conscious mind naturally wants to question everything: “Did this really happen? Am I imagining this? Why am I seeing this?” But regression often becomes more meaningful when people simply allow the experience to unfold naturally. The messages that come through are often emotional rather than intellectual. The soul understands things the logical mind sometimes struggles to explain.
I also believe our spiritual guides only allow us to experience what we are emotionally ready to process. Even when difficult memories arise, there is often a feeling of protection, distance, or compassion surrounding the experience. Clients frequently describe sensing they are being supported throughout the process, almost as if they are not reliving these moments alone. That feeling of spiritual safety can be deeply healing in itself.
At the end of the day, I don’t think the greatest value of regression work comes from proving the past. I believe its true value comes from the wisdom, healing, and self-awareness the soul gains through the experience. Whether these memories are literal past lives, symbolic visions, or messages lovingly guided into awareness by spiritual helpers, they often arrive for a reason. Sometimes our guides show us exactly what we need to see — not to keep us trapped in the past, but to help us grow into a healthier, more peaceful future.
